Back in Bangkok: Pratyay Kumar Returns with a 2-Day Handstand Workshop

There are two ways to approach a handstand.

The first is to throw yourself at the wall and hope. The second is to build it — properly, patiently, from the foundations up. One of them works. The other leads to frustration, plateau, and the quiet belief that handstands just aren’t for you.

Pratyay Kumar teaches the second way.

This August, Pratyay returns to YogaSutra Studio for the first time since 2019 — when he taught with us before heading to Hong Kong, where he’s spent the years since training, teaching, and running his own yoga and calisthenics studio. He comes back with a 2-day workshop designed to give intermediate practitioners the tools they actually need to build and hold a handstand.

ABOUT PRATYAY KUMAR

Pratyay started his yoga journey in India in 2014, coming from a martial arts background he’d been developing for four years prior. That combination — the discipline of martial arts, the awareness of yoga — shows up clearly in how he teaches.

He’s spent the years since sharing his knowledge across India, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and holds a 300-hour Yoga Therapy Teacher Training certification alongside a 200-hour foundation. He teaches Immersive Flow, Vinyasa, Pranayama, and Meditation, and has built his teaching reputation on one consistent principle: know the basics so well that the advanced becomes natural.

His own handstand practice comes from that same root — methodical, structural, earned.

WHAT THE WORKSHOP COVERS

The two-day format is intentional. Day 1 is devoted to drills and technique — the foundational work that most students skip because it isn’t glamorous, but that makes all the difference. Day 2 moves into alignment and balance: refining what was built, progressing toward a freestanding hold.

Over both sessions, you’ll work through:

  • Wall drills that develop honest alignment awareness
  • Core and arm conditioning specifically for handstand demands
  • How to coordinate upper and lower back — the most commonly neglected piece
  • Breathing mechanics and bandha engagement in inversion
  • How to fall safely — which, once you understand it, removes the biggest psychological block

This workshop is for intermediate practitioners. You don’t need to have a handstand. You do need to have a consistent practice, functional upper body strength, and a willingness to work slowly before working freely.
